Having recently appointed a new Director, SCDC is now seeking to recruit a Head of Programmes to support the strategic and operational direction of the organisation. You will be expected to represent SCDC at a strategic level, and influence policy and strategy related to community development. As a member of the senior management team, you will need extensive experience of community development at a senior level. You will also work to ensure the sustainability of SCDC, will be accountable for the successful delivery of programme and contract work, and will be expected to promote and develop the work of SCDC through engaging with a range of external stakeholders at both national and local level.

SCDC, incorporating CHEX, the Scottish Co-production Network and PB Scotland, has recently undertaken a review of its strategic objectives to ensure that we are fit for purpose for the challenges and opportunities ahead for community development in Scotland. As a result of this review and as part of our ongoing succession planning, we are now seeking to recruit new staff to the organisation on both a permanent and temporary basis.

SCDC is seeking to recruit two Development Managers, one permanent and one temporary, to develop and implement several of our operational programmes and to deliver on contract work. To be successful, you will need a proven track record in working with and alongside communities and community organisations, and with strategic partners at local and national levels. You will have knowledge of the policy environment for community development and empowerment in Scotland and you will have first rate facilitation, communication and writing skills. As a key member of the team, you will be expected to contribute to the strategic direction of SCDC through programme development and business planning.

Information and Communications Officer

SCDC is seeking to recruit an Information and Communications Officer to support the delivery of an effective communications function across the organisation’s programmes and in the promotion of SCDC as the lead body for community development in Scotland.

To be successful you will have considerable experience working in a busy communications / marketing environment and applying a broad set of skills to deliver a range of communications outputs. With strong social media and design skills, you’ll bring experienced workload management along with knowledge of event planning and the ability to problem solve.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a key part of a small communications team delivering at a national level across subjects such as participatory budgeting, community empowerment, co-production and more.

Established thirty years ago as a partnership between the Community Development Foundation and the University of Glasgow, SCDC became an independent charity in Scotland in 2009, designated as the lead national organisation for community development.

Over the past decade and more, we have worked hard to establish ourselves as an authority on community development theory and practice. We work with and alongside communities and with community practitioners, and we use the knowledge and experience we gain to help shape national policy.

Purpose of the post

We are now looking for a new Director to help lead SCDC into its next decade of development. If you are passionate about democracy, social justice and community empowerment, this is your opportunity to make a difference to people and communities across Scotland.

You will be knowledgeable about the policy and practice environment for community development in Scotland and experienced in running an organisation with multiple funding streams and an income generation model. You will be skilled in leading a team to deliver on our mission and in working with the Board of Directors to implement our strategic vision. You will have highly developed communication skills and you will be comfortable in working with a range of different stakeholders.
