Youth Therapeutic Worker and Counsellor

We are looking for a qualified counsellor either accredited or working towards accreditation, to work within our existing therapeutic and counselling service, currently operational within a collection of schools in Glasgow and the community of Parkhead.

This role will have an emphasis on counselling young people within community settings to offer professional assistance aimed at improving mental health, wellbeing and personal development. We aim to provide help in dealing with a variety of issues as well as developing personal coping strategies to ultimately reduce the risk of homelessness.

Candidates will require experience of professional counselling, a demonstrable passion for working with people from a range of backgrounds and a personal drive to see young people thrive, flourish and overcome personal challenges.

As the demand for this service grows geographically, we are looking for a candidate who will strengthen and develop our existing service. A significant part of the role will be to facilitate volunteer mentoring by working in partnership with churches and other organisations across the wider area of Fife, Dundee and Perth.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team alongside the Referrals and Communications Worker and under the supervision of the Community Reintegration Coordinator.

Starting salary for a successful candidate with an SVQ3 in a relevant qualification would be £25,101 (pro rata).

Are you passionate about substance recovery and preventing homelessness in Dundee?

For the past seven years, Bethany Christian Trust have been delivering a community-based addiction recovery program in Scotland. To accompany this existing work in Dundee, we are looking for a candidate who will deliver recreational activities for people both on the fringes of recovery and in recovery. A significant part of the role will also be to support the facilitation and development of recovery and resettlement work in partnership with churches and other organisations around Dundee.

It is essential that you have experience in facilitating, planning and working with vulnerable people in a community setting. A qualification in Social Work, Social Care, Community Education or related discipline is essential, or a willingness to work towards such a qualification.

It is driven and operated mainly by church volunteers who provide food, hot drinks, conversation and much needed support to anyone facing homelessness.

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the lunchtime service for the Care Van, including:

  • Coordinating a rota for volunteer teams so that all days have a team assigned to them ensuring continuity of service.
  • Preparing sandwiches when volunteers teams are unable to supply their own.
  • Organising food supplies and donations for the provision of the service, and going out with the volunteers on an average of one outreach per week.

As we’ve immersed ourselves into communities we’ve seen a demand for independent advocacy support amongst people with experience of the justice system, people in recovery from substances and those at risk of homelessness.

We are looking for two person centred candidates who will support the coproduction and delivery of Bethany’s new Access through Advocacy service within community settings. A significant part of the role will also be developing relationships with existing partner organisations and churches around Glasgow and over time extending across the central belt.

The principal role of the Advocacy Worker will be to collate information from individuals and advocate with and for people to overcome issues primarily relating to welfare rights, benefits, challenging decisions, resolution of tenancy issues, health rights and accessing the right health provision, fuel insecurity, dealing with bills and understanding bank accounts.

It is essential that you have worked with people that have experienced gaps in systems and problems accessing key services. A qualification in advocacy or a related discipline at SCQF level 7 is essential, or a willingness to work towards such a qualification. Such a qualification will influence the initial salary.

These placements often coincide with completing a Community Achievement Award in partnership with Glasgow Kelvin College. We are looking for a candidate who will lead and facilitate these existing work placements and as well as developing new opportunities for work placements or work experience.

A significant part of this role will be offering 1-2-1 support to people before, during and after work placements. This will include working with vulnerable adults who require specific working environments, so a person centred approach is needed to assess the suitability of a person and placement match. Continued support for the individual and their line managers during placements and review processes is essential. A key aspect of the role will also be to encourage personal development throughout placements; seeking opportunities to gain new skills, looking at relevant training and qualifications as well as discussing the ‘next steps’ with people towards the end of their work placement.

The successful candidate will work as part of a homelessness prevention team in the West of Scotland. The person will receive support and line management from Bethany’s Homelessness Prevention Manager based in Glasgow.

Support Worker - Housing Support Fife

Housing Support Fife is a service providing short term housing support in the Levenmouth area. Bethany Christian Trust is looking for a male support worker to be part of this team. The successful post holder will work as part of a team to provide flexible and creative support to vulnerable people to meet their housing needs.

You will have a proven record as a team player with excellent communication skills; you will have experience and knowledge of the service user group and their surrounding issues. We would welcome applicants with lived experience of these issues. Competence in the use of Microsoft office tools is essential. An SVQ 3 in Social Care, Promoting Independence or equivalent as listed by SSSC as appropriate for a ‘Housing Support Worker’ or the willingness to work towards this is desirable coupled with experience of working with vulnerable and homeless people.

As Bethany is a Christian organisation, this post carries an Occupational Requirement in line with Equality Act 2010. Please note that one reference must be from your church minister or leader to endorse your live and active Christian faith and commitment.

There is also an Occupational Requirement in terms of the Equality Act that the post be filled by a male given the requirement to provide support to service users where a male support worker is required, and the need for additional male support workers on the team to enable that support to be provided.

Successful applicants for this post will require membership of the PVG scheme and registration with the SSSC.

Job Purpose

  • Prepare, price and display stock items for sale as directed

  • Opening up and closing the shop

Nightshift Project Worker – Welcome Centre

Youth Placement Facilitator

Bethany Christian Trust works in partnership with Clay Community Church to deliver work placement opportunities within Clay Café to young people. These placements often coincide with completing a Community Achievement Award in partnership with Glasgow Kelvin College.

We are looking for a candidate who will lead and facilitate work placements and oversee the running of the café two days a week on a Thursday and Friday.

A significant part of this role will be offering support to young people prior to the commencement of their work placement, during it and following the placement’s completion. A key aspect of the role will be to encourage personal development throughout placements; seeking opportunities to gain new skills, looking at relevant training and qualifications as well as discussing the ‘next steps’ with people towards the end of their work placement.

The successful candidate will work as part of a homelessness prevention team in the West of Scotland. The person will receive support and line management from Bethany’s Homelessness Prevention Manager based in Glasgow.

It is essential that you have experience in facilitating, planning and working with young people. Experience of working within hospitality such as a café is desirable but not essential. A willingness to learn skills related to the running of the café is integral to the role.

A qualification in Social Work, Social Care, Community Education or related discipline is desirable, or a willingness to work towards such a qualification. Successful candidates with an existing SVQ3 in Social Care or equivalent can expect a starting salary of £24,557(FTE).

We are looking for a Volunteer Coordinator to oversee all aspects of volunteer engagement, from recruitment and training to the initial support of all volunteers within our services.

You will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining accurate volunteer information through the iTrent database and electronic file system.
  • Ensuring Bethany has volunteers that are well matched to Bethany’s current business needs and future development, including targeted advertising and individual interviews.
  • Overseeing and contributing to ongoing volunteer support and supervision for the purposes of good practice and volunteer retention. This includes posting volunteering reviews and supporting managers and supervisors.
  • Reviewing volunteer systems, policies and administrative practices across Bethany with the aim of Bethany being at the forefront of good practice.
  • Co-ordinating induction, training and ‘thank you’ events for volunteers in order to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to undertake their roles safely and competently and due recognition is given to their contribution to the success of Bethany.
  • Partnering with external organisations in order to widen the volunteering base, e.g. University placements.

We are looking for an energetic candidate with excellent communication skills, who can use their own initiative as well as prioritise tasks, and who has a real passion for volunteering.
