Dumbarton Area Council on Alcohol
Dumbarton Area Council on Alcohol

Charity registered in Scotland SC012237

Dumbarton Area Council on Alcohol (DACA) was established in 1976 to provide support and information to people affected by alcohol misuses – either their own or that of a friend of family member. The core service delivered by DACA is free, one-to-one confidential counselling. Over the years the charity has led the way in developing and delivering additional ground-breaking services that tackle a range of problems associated with alcohol misuse, and in the process it has made a positive difference to the lives of thousands of people in West Dunbartonshire and gained national and international acclaim. Our team of staff and volunteers, many of whom have been with the agency for 10+ years, provide support across West Dunbartonshire, delivering services primarily from premises in Clydebank and Dumbarton. We are an independent charity which is governed by a volunteer management committee and we work closely with a range of local partners from the voluntary and statutory sectors.

Alcohol Counsellor

  • Full time
  • £25,025
  • Flexible across DACA’s two bases – Dumbarton & Clydebank with occasional home working
  • Closing 4th January 2023

We have an urgent vacancy for a full-time alcohol counsellor – 35 hours per week (Mon-Fri). The post will operate between our two offices – in Clydebank and in Dumbarton.

We’re looking for someone who has strong post-qualification counselling experience and, ideally, some direct experience of working in a drug/alcohol recovery setting. If you also have lived experience of alcohol harms, your application will be especially welcomed.

Attitude is hugely important to us. We are a small team, and we need someone who understands that DACA’s success is directly linked to their own professional success. When we strive together, we all get stronger and better, meaning we can do more to support the people in our recovery community.

If you’re a counselling professional looking to work within a small, cohesive team, supporting people to achieve their own recovery goals, we’d love to hear from you. You can find a link below to the full job description, along with an application form and guidance notes.

Please note that a PVG membership will be required for this post. DACA will facilitate the membership application process.

Alcohol Counsellor

  • Full time
  • £25,025
  • Flexible across DACA’s two bases – Dumbarton & Clydebank with occasional home working
  • Closing 4th October 2021

DACA is the Community Alcohol Service for West Dunbartonshire. Every year, we support hundreds of people to make positive changes to their drinking behaviours, but we know that so many people across our community – our friends, family and neighbours - are struggling but not receiving any help. It is estimated that 1 person in every 4 across West Dunbartonshire is drinking at harmful levels. We want to reach as many people as possible; to educate, encourage and support them to change, in the compassionate and non-judgmental way that is DACA’s trademark.

To support our mission, we are now looking to recruit an experienced alcohol counsellor to join our small, friendly team. This is a full-time post.

*Flexible working or job-sharing arrangements will be considered for the right candidate(s).
