The Classroom Assistant will promote effective learning & teaching in all classes under the direction and supervision of the Principal & Class Teachers. You will uphold and promote the ethos and values of the Centre.

We endeavour to ensure our curriculum offers scope for our young people to extend their learning beyond subject areas through vocational and interdisciplinary work and learning across a broad range of contexts.

The centre embraces the concept of a 24-hour curriculum within which young people can gain recognition for achievements within and out with the school day. As a result, we are able to offer our young people achievement opportunities within the Broad General Education and the Senior Phase curriculum, as well as through wider achievement awards such as the Duke of Edinburgh and vocational subjects.

The Family Support Worker will be responsible for the delivery of support services for families/carers and young people living at and making the transition from the Good Shepherd Centre. You will lead the delivery of care and support to young people in a safe, secure, nurturing and positive environment; ensuring that the quality of care and the living environment is in keeping with the GSC ethos and legislative, organisational and procedural requirements, and current good practice and guidance. You will lead, supervise and support individual staff members and the team to achieve agreed work plans and objectives, and ensure appropriate opportunities are given to enable people to maximise performance. As part of your duties, you will be required to share in the on-call “out of hours” responsibility for the whole Centre on a rota basis.

As Duty Officer, you will be part of the management team and have the responsibility for supporting, co-ordinating and managing the running of the care service across Lyle, Kilpatrick, Nevis and Lomond House and Hillview Cottage, our secure care and close support and Semi-independent living houses.

Your role will include overall responsibility for planning, prioritising, organising teams out with working hours and supporting the specific needs, of our young people. You will support the delivery of care and support to young people in a safe, secure, nurturing and positive environment; ensuring that the quality of care and the living environment is in keeping with GSC’s ethos and legislative, organisational and procedural requirements, and current good practice guidance. You will support the senior management team and will have significant involvement with supporting individual staff members within their role and the team to achieve agreed work plans and keep our young people safe.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with excellent communication, relationship building and management skills. So if you are passionate about supporting both young people and colleagues to develop and achieve their potential, and have experience of supervisory roles within residential care, then this role could be ideal for you. The Covid-19 Pandemic presented real challenges to GSC. How could we make sure that young people and their loved ones stayed connected, and that professionals like social workers and psychologists could support them when we were not allowed to welcome visitors into the Centre? The answer lay in making creative and collaborative use of e-commmunication and developing our IT systems. We held whole school events via Remote connections, we learned new ways of working which we want to further develop and we contributed to national events remotely - We even filmed and screened a Pantomime starring young people and staff.

This exciting new role of IT Support Officer will help to build on this progress and our contuinuing programme of digitalisation. The role will contribute to ensuring effective e-communication and Information Technology systems are in place to support young people’s care and education and the wider functioning of the Centre.

The IT Support Officer has an important role in maintaining the computer and network systems of the organisation, problem solving and troubleshooting; diagnosing computer hardware and software issues; setting up and maintaining computer networks and assisting the Senior Staff Team to Project Manage, develop and implement plans and guidance for IT-related developments, including staff training.

The GSC has a contract in place with an external IT services provider, and the IT Support Officer will also have plenty of oppoprtunities to engage with our ICT Teacher and Education Team, and our Media Tutors and Communications Manager as well as acting as a key link between the IT Provider and Team GSC.

Through ensuring that the work is in keeping with legislative, procedural and good practice requirements and guidance, the overall focus of the role is to build trusting relationships with young people within a nurturing, stimulating and safe environment. You will work as part of a team to support young people to meet their needs, achieve their goals and build hope for their future.

The successful candidates will have experience of supporting vulnerable young people, are committed to Children’s Rights and have an Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Social Care and the Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Caring for Children and Young People at Level 3 or above, or equivalent qualifications recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

There is also a requirement to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a registered supervisor within the first six months of employment.
