Inverclyde Women’s Aid are a specialist provider of support for women, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse, looking to appoint a Children and Young People Worker to join our team on a part time, 16 hours a week basis. You will be responsible for providing high quality early intervention and prevention anger management support services to Children & Young people through the New Attitudes programme in education establishments.

Key Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of a Young People Worker include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing an early intervention and prevention programme including:
    • Mentoring - A safe and non-judgemental 1-2-1 space from primary 7 to 18 that builds trust to promote an understanding of, and recovery from domestic abuse and toxic relationships
    • Dedicated programmes for adolescents who have lived experience of domestic abuse
    • To organise and run age-appropriate anger management sessions providing children and young people with opportunities to share, explore and work through their feelings.
    • To provide practical and emotional support for children & young people who are referred to us through schools and education.

Inverclyde Women’s Aid SCIO is a charitable organisation established in 1985. Providing specialist domestic abuse services to women, children & young people who are experiencing, or have experienced domestic abuse, sexual assault, rape and childhood sexual abuse.

We are a Registered Charity and SCIO SC046936. The Charity has been delivering vital services for women and children across the Inverclyde area for over 37 years. Inverclyde Women’s Aid’s vision is where women, children and young people are free from the threat of abuse, violence or oppression.

The Person

  • The key skills and qualities of a Children and Young People Worker:
  • Any recognised Young People Qualification, HNC in Social Care , Or equivalent, as listed on the SSSC website
  • Experience of supporting Young People in an educational establishment
  • Experience of liaising with a range of partner agencies and advocating on service users’ behalf
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the dynamics, impact, and scale of anger management, domestic abuse, and other forms of gender-based violence [GBV] especially in relation to children & young people
  • A requirement to work a variable shift pattern which may include evening and weekend working
  • Full driving licence & access to own transport and willingness to travel throughout Inverclyde

You do not need to know everything there is to know about domestic and or sexual abuse, but you will need to prove that you are interested in our work, be reliable, action focussed and committed to our principles and values.

We are keen to hear from women, and in particular those who may have experience or skills in the areas of HR, IT, legal, fundraising, marketing, social media and charity governance.

Role

The IWA Manager will lead the Charity and continue to build and future proof the Organisation. We are a specialist provider of support for women, children & young people who have experienced domestic abuse. Our service is free, confidential and independent, and we are affiliated to Scottish Women’s Aid.

The successful Manager will be an experienced leader with a proven track record in ensuring the delivery of high-quality services. The Manager will have excellent organisational, motivational and governance skills at a service level. They will have experience of working in a fast-paced environment and will have the ability to prioritise and delegate tasks effectively. They will have experience of developing and delivering strategic and service plans, applying for funding and budget management. The Manager will need to have knowledge of change management and leading teams through a change process.

Successful candidates will have a passion for improving the lives of women, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse. Applicants should be qualified appropriately in order to register at the appropriate level for a Housing Support Service with SSSC or be committed to achieving this qualification.
