Senior Evaluation Officer, Research & Monitoring Unit
£26,985 per annum
37.5 hours per week – based in Edinburgh
Sustrans Research & Monitoring Unit provides evidence on sustainable and active travel that is transparent and authoritative and which influences and shapes policy, practice and behaviour across the UK. These two roles will play an important part in developing our understanding of active travel in Scotland with responsibilities for evaluating major infrastructure programmes and leading aspects of our work focused on school travel and will include developing and managing a small team as well as overseeing aspects of our wider programme of monitoring, evaluation and appraisal work.
We are seeking creative, passionate and experienced individuals to join our team. If you have a good understanding of best practice in monitoring and evaluation techniques, have demonstrable project management skills and are a great communicator with the ability to present technical information in a clear way this could be the opportunity for you. You will be able to draw on a wide range of research methods and apply them to real world projects, have strong analytical skills, experience of working with partners and clients and know how to get the best out of others both through line management and task supervision. You will also be committed to the promotion of active and sustainable travel.

This role will support the successful delivery of Places for Everyone through dynamic leadership of a team of officers. You will also support partners in using best practice approaches to design, engagement and behaviour change.
With experience of urban design, transport planning or civil engineering, you will have skills in project management, and budget management. You will have experience of working with a wide range of delivery partners to design and deliver infrastructure projects
The ability to work independently and make decisions will be enhanced by your excellent written and verbal communications skills. .Your influencing and persuasion skills and your ability to build and maintain successful working relationships will help set new standards for projects in Scotland.

This exciting role is to support the development and delivery of community-led active travel initiatives and activities across multiple community areas in Scotland working with local communities, local authorities, groups, businesses and other interested parties leading to behaviour change following the promotion of walking, cycling and sustainable travel modes in the community.
With a good standard of education, you will have experience in the delivery of practical projects with community involvement as a core element, experience of workshop design and facilitation, of organising community events and of report writing. Your excellent written and verbal communication will enhance your interpersonal skills, your community networking skills and your ability to motivate and enthuse others. You will be IT literate, with knowledge of social media and MS Office, be very organised, have strong administrative skills and be committed to cycling and walking and the promotion of sustainable transport. Employment will be conditional on clearance by the appropriate PVG Disclosure check.
The exciting opportunity this role gives is to be part of the inspiring Street Design team delivering a range of projects across Scotland getting involved with the planning, promoting and facilitation of sessions with communities and stakeholders with the aim of developing design proposals and behaviour change recommendations that make it easier for people to walk, cycle and wheel.
With a good standard of education, you will have experience of effective delivery of practical projects with community engagement as a core element, of partnership working and of leading and delivering group workshops or facilitation. Your excellent written and verbal communications skills will enhance your ability to develop productive working relationships and motivate and influence others. You will also have the ability to implement effective and innovative methods for community workshops and activities, have good IT, administrative and report writing skills and have a knowledge and understanding of the practical constraints of engaging with local communities and partners. You will also be committed to the promotion of sustainable transport.
