Sustrans Scotland is growing and we’re looking for individuals with a passion for changing the spaces we live in and move through in favour of people on foot or bike. Our Infrastructure programme, Places for Everyone provides support to a range of partners to design and develop inspirational projects that restore the balance of Scotland’s streets in favour of people walking, cycling and wheeling.

Places for Everyone aims to create safer, more attractive, healthier places by increasing the number of trips made by walking, cycling and wheeling for everyday journeys showcase-sustrans.org.uk/about/places-for-everyone.

This role will support the successful delivery of Places for Everyone through dynamic leadership of a team of officers. You will also support partners in using best practice approaches to design, engagement and behaviour change.

With experience of urban design, transport planning or civil engineering, you will have skills in project management, and budget management. You will have experience of working with a wide range of delivery partners to design and deliver infrastructure projects

The ability to work independently and make decisions will be enhanced by your excellent written and verbal communications skills. .Your influencing and persuasion skills and your ability to build and maintain successful working relationships will help set new standards for projects in Scotland.

As part of the team, you will contribute to the delivery of high quality urban realm projects with a focus on people and place across Scotland.

Senior Evaluation Officer, Research & Monitoring Unit

£26,985 per annum

37.5 hours per week – based in Edinburgh

Sustrans Research & Monitoring Unit provides evidence on sustainable and active travel that is transparent and authoritative and which influences and shapes policy, practice and behaviour across the UK. These two roles will play an important part in developing our understanding of active travel in Scotland with responsibilities for evaluating major infrastructure programmes and leading aspects of our work focused on school travel and will include developing and managing a small team as well as overseeing aspects of our wider programme of monitoring, evaluation and appraisal work.

We are seeking creative, passionate and experienced individuals to join our team. If you have a good understanding of best practice in monitoring and evaluation techniques, have demonstrable project management skills and are a great communicator with the ability to present technical information in a clear way this could be the opportunity for you. You will be able to draw on a wide range of research methods and apply them to real world projects, have strong analytical skills, experience of working with partners and clients and know how to get the best out of others both through line management and task supervision. You will also be committed to the promotion of active and sustainable travel.
