Mikeysline was founded in late 2015 after a tragic number of suicides in the Highland area. Since then, alot has happened. We have been supporting those struggling with mental health issues across the Highlands ever since.

Operations Manager

We are looking to recruit an excellent leader to our new post of Operations Manager, reporting to our CEO to support our current work and planned developments.

You will have senior management experience of working in the third sector or previous experience of working in public sector roles, with a background in supporting mental health or suicide prevention services/provision. You will be a compassionate, non-judgemental individual who wants to make a positive difference to other people’s lives.

Your senior management achievements to date will ensure that you can confidently and supportively manage and develop people and have an interest in and previous experience of helping to shape, develop and expand new high quality and existing services. Your role will also include the lead on grants applications for the charity and in helping to build the charity’s funds through developing partnerships with organisations and businesses.

In this role you will also play a key role in the ongoing development of policies and guidelines for staff and in reviewing and delivering as appropriate, some of the core training for Mikeysline’s staff and volunteer group. You will work as part of the senior management team of the charity, alongside other managers, including a job-share Part-time Operations Manager post.

A confident speaker and presenter, you will also have a key role in delivering presentations and workshops to promote the role of Mikeysline and to raise awareness of the importance of mental health, wellbeing and suicide prevention.

In summary, the ideal candidate will have excellent leadership, management and communication skills, experience in grant funding and in building partnerships with others, will be able to work collaboratively with others as part of a team and have previous knowledge and experience of working in mental health services.

Work base: 19 Academy Street, Inverness, with some home working as appropriate. You will need to hold a full clean driving licence to travel to different locations and meetings.

At Mikeysline, we are currently looking for a new Chair for our Board of Trustees with a background and experience at senior leadership level in the field of mental health and suicide prevention. You may have previously worked with a charity or in public sector roles and will have previous experience of working on a Board of Directors.

The Charity

Mikeysline is a charity based in the Highlands, established in 2015 to provide support to those who are experiencing emotional distress, suicidal thoughts or generally struggling with their mental health. We run three main services – our text-based support, which includes SMS, Facebook Messenger, Webchat and Twitter. We also provide face to face support at our Hives, in Inverness, Nairn, Alness and Tain, with appointments and drop in available for adults and young people. Our third service is our young person’s service, providing support to young people in person, in school and college settings and in the community, alongside increasing group support to families and often staff within the schools. Alongside this, we increasingly provide workshops and training to employers and a range of other businesses.

The Role

We currently have an opening for a trustee to join our board as Chair and are specifically looking for someone who has previous experience of working at a strategic level for the benefit of a charity/organisation. Is a confident leader and networker and who is passionate about making a difference in the mental health and suicide prevention service area.

This is a voluntary role, however, reasonable expenses will be paid upon presentation of receipts and with prior arrangement.

As Chair, you will not only perform the standard duties of a trustee but also have some specific responsibilities which include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership to the charity and its Board, ensuring that the Charity has maximum impact for its beneficiaries
  • Ensure that Trustees fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the Charity
  • Ensure that the Board operates within its charitable objectives and provides a clear strategic direction for the Charity
  • Ensure that the Board is able to regularly review major risks and associated opportunities, and satisfy itself that systems are in place to take advantage of opportunities and manage and mitigate the risks
  • Ensure that the Board fulfils its duties to ensure sound financial health of the charity, with systems in place to ensure financial accountability
  • Ensure that the governance arrangements are working in the most effective way for the Charity
  • Work within any agreed policies adopted by the charity
  • Act as an ambassador for the cause and the charity
  • Act as a spokesperson for the organisation when appropriate
  • Represent the charity at external functions, meetings and events
  • Chair meetings of the Board of Trustees effectively and efficiently, bringing impartiality and objectivity to the decision making process
  • Ensure that Trustees are fully engaged and that decisions are taken in the best, long-term interests of the Charity and that the Board takes collective ownership
  • Establish and build a strong, effective and a constructive working relationship with the Chief Executive, ensuring s/he is held to account for achieving agreed strategic objectives
  • Ensure regular contact with the Chief Executive and develop and maintain an open and supportive relationship within which each can speak openly about concerns, worries and challenges
  • Liaise with the Chief Executive to maintain an overview of the Charity’s affairs, providing support as necessary
  • Conduct an annual appraisal and remuneration review for the Chief Executive in consultation with other Trustees

Skills and Experience

We are looking for people with some or all of the following general skills/aptitude:

  • Demonstrate a strong and visible passion and commitment to the charity, its strategic objectives and cause
  • Exhibit strong inter-personal and relationship building abilities and be comfortable in an ambassadorial role
  • Demonstrate tact and diplomacy, with the ability to listen and engage effectively
  • Strong networking capabilities that can be utilised for the benefit of the charity
  • Ability to foster and promote a collaborative team environment
  • Good understanding of charity governance issues
  • Experience of chairing meetings and events

Time Commitment

We currently have board meetings every 2 months and are usually held in Inverness or occasionally online. Additionally, the Chair is expected to have regular meetings with the Chief Executive and also represent the Charity at various events and meetings with key stakeholders when appropriate.

We would expect that you commit to this role for at least 3 years.

Development Manager

We are looking to recruit to our Development Manager post, principally responsible for managing our young person's team and helping to develop our support to young people and families, whilst involved in the wider work of Mikeysline.

We are looking for a Manager who has a passion for making a positive difference to other people’s lives and understands and supports Mikeysline’s cause.

You will have experience of managing and developing people and services, are an excellent and confident communicator and networker and a compassionate individual.

You will have experiences of working in the mental health field and or/with young people within education, third sector or public sector roles and will be looking for a new challenge with a Highland charity.

We also provide an additional young person’s service through our Hives, in local communities and in schools.

This is a key role for Mikeysline, helping us to secure vital grants for our charity to support our ongoing development and expansion of services in Highland and Moray.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

In this post, you will report to and work closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and also with other staff within the charity as appropriate with the aim of extending your knowledge of the work we do and the difference that securing grants for specific pieces of work will have on our work and outcomes for others.

You will lead on grant applications, on the monitoring of these and in producing the reports back to funders. Externally, you will develop excellent working relationships with a variety of grant funding bodies.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and confident individual in their area of expertise, who enjoys writing funding applications, has a successful track record in securing funds for charities and is committed to Mikeysine’s cause. You will have imagination, drive and be highly motivated to achieve results.

The post holder can be based at our main office in Academy Street, Inverness, or they can work from home. Individual preferences will be discussed with the right candidate. Flexibility in this role will be essential as needs arise in terms of deadlines. The postholder will also be able to work flexibly where this will work in everyone’s best interests.

Fundraising Manager

Mikeysline is a Highland based grass roots mental health and suicide prevention charity, operating in Highland and Moray. We provide text-based support, 1:1 face to face support, work with schools and groups and raise awareness to breakdown the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide.

The Fundraising Manager is a new and key role for Mikeysline, helping us to raise vital funds for our charity to support our ongoing development and expansion of services in Highland and Moray.

This post offers an excellent opportunity for someone who has a commitment to Mikeysline’s cause and an interest in general in mental health and suicide prevention.

You in turn will excel in communications, leadership and networking skills. You will have previous media and events management experience as well as the ability to build and maintain relationships.
