About the Landscape Institute (LI)
Do you want to transform the world?
The Landscape Institute (LI) represents a membership of over 5,000 landscape architects, landscape and parks managers, urban designers and more, who through their everyday work create and improve the places where we live, work, and relax.
From pocket parks to national parks, green streets to green cities, our members connect people, place and nature on every level, at every scale. Supporting them in this crucial work is our talented and dedicated staff team.
As a royal chartered body, the LI makes sure that landscape professionals in the UK exemplify the highest possible standards of practice. We oversee education and accreditation, provide vital learning and professional development services, connect our expert members with governments and policymakers, and work to grow the influence and profile of landscape. And, collaborating with similar bodies overseas, we contribute to a truly global profession – one that stands ready to address today’s most pressing challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, health and wellbeing, and more.
We’re a small but growing team with big ambitions and tremendous enthusiasm for nature-led placemaking. Do you want to be part of our exciting mission? Join the LI staff team today, and help us inspire great places!
The Landscape Institute values and celebrates diversity and inclusion in all its forms. We can only change the world for the better if we reflect, represent and inspire the communities we serve.
We support applications from all suitably qualified people regardless of sex, sexuality, race, ethnicity, belief or disability. When we recruit, we actively seek to reach a diverse pool of candidates. It also means that we are happy to consider any reasonable adjustments that potential employees may need in order to be successful.
Job Overview
We are looking for a Scotland-based Policy and Partnerships Manager to support our ambitions in Scotland and beyond. The LI is looking to build its external presence, and you will work on policy, research and insight, campaigns, and networking to grow our influence and help build the profession in Scotland. The post will work with the Head of Policy and LI membership to develop policy positions, prepare expert briefings, build our network, and ensure that the voice of landscape is heard by decision-makers.
You will act as the LI’s country manager for Scotland, being the key point of contact for the sector, engaging key stakeholders, and working flexibly on national priorities and opportunities. You’ll also work as part of the wider UK policy team occasionally working on reserved UK matters and contributing to the success of the organisation as a whole.
To be successful, you will need to have experience in a similar policy or external affairs role, and be confident working relatively independently. We are looking for candidates with a proven track record of working with internal and external stakeholders in the development of policy and projects. You must have a solid understanding of political and policy processes in Scotland and excellent communication skills.
Experience working for a membership body or relevant knowledge of natural or built environment issues would be beneficial.
Location: Scotland, Central Belt. NB: The LI holds a short-term office lease in Edinburgh; however, this is currently under review in light of COVID-19. We are open to home-based working for the right applicant, and applicants are asked to state where their preferred working location would be.
