Associate Improvement Advisor

An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and knowledgeable individual to join the Improvement Hub (ihub) within Healthcare Improvement Scotland. The Place, Home and Housing Portfolio team is expanding to support delivery of its work-plan and engagement across Health and Housing.

The Place, Home and Housing team supports the housing sector, health and social care partnerships (HSCPs) and NHS boards to further develop understanding of the contribution that housing makes to good health.

Our programme of work is committed to: bringing together the housing sector and health system to improve outcomes for the people of Scotland; sharing good practice; and using a range of Quality Improvement methodologies to design, test and spread new ways of working to achieve improvements at a local level.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Portfolio Lead to design and deliver a range of activities that improve the connectedness of housing, health and social care. The Place, Home and Housing Portfolio is already delivering key pieces of work including Adapting for Change, Housing Solutions, and our newer Housing and Dementia Commitments. This portfolio is currently designing a new work programme and engaging with stakeholders to explore opportunities for housing and health to support improvements in Homelessness, Mental Health and Adverse Childhood Events.

The ihub is looking for people with experience of supporting and leading service change and improvement across health, housing or social care. The diversity of our work requires an adaptable approach to improvement support that can be applied to any setting or subject matter including those based within communities. Therefore, we would welcome applicants with experience in improvement from a wide-range of professional backgrounds and sectors.

Scotland’s health and social care systems impact on everyone’s lives at one time or another, and this could be your chance to get involved in improving the ways in which the public engages with these important services.


Healthcare Improvement Scotland has specific responsibilities, along with partner organisations, to support health and care services improve the ways they engage with the public. The Scottish Health Council is part of Healthcare Improvement Scotland and takes forward these responsibilities. We are looking for three new Members to join the Scottish Health Council Committee. These are challenging, rewarding and worthwhile roles that will give you the unique opportunity to help ensure future health and care services are informed and improved by quality engagement with the Scottish public, while also broadening your own skills and experience.

Can I apply?

Previous experience of non-executive positions is not required, nor is experience gained within health or social care. We really want to hear from people with practical experience of community engagement, who can demonstrate their understanding of the importance of engaging with people and communities in order to bring about positive developments at individual, local, regional or national levels. You also need to have a commitment to helping us improve the health and wellbeing of the Scottish people. If this is you, we would very much like to hear from you.
