Role:

The Development and Alumni Office (DAO) comprises the Development, Alumni and Development & Alumni Services teams. The DAO works to empower Heriot-Watt University to achieve its strategic aims by building productive and enduring relationships between the University and its network of supporters, philanthropists and organisations, in order to support priority initiatives and developments. The team seeks to build on the strong foundations in place in order to maximise the philanthropic and engagement potential of Heriot-Watt’s stakeholder groups. This post is part of the Development team, which is led by the Head of Development and also includes three Senior Development Executives, a Development Executive (Regular Giving) and a Stewardship Officer.

Detailed description:

This is an exciting role to raise philanthropic funds in support of the University’s strategic aims and priorities and build momentum for the launch of the Bicentennial Campaign in 2021. The post-holder will be responsible for raising income from Trusts and Foundations and companies through philanthropic. The post-holder will be responsible for developing and managing prospect pools; developing relationships internally with academics in order to build fundraising pipelines; developing innovative and compelling proposals and cases for support in order to cultivate and solicit philanthropic gifts and help steward relationships thereafter. We are seeking individuals who are self-starters, highly organised, engaging communicators with excellent negotiating skills and who have a passion for connecting Trusts and Foundations and companies to new thinking, opportunities and partnerships at Heriot-Watt.

Key responsibilities and duties:

Work with the Head of Development, the senior development team and academics to plan, co-ordinate and support the University’s fundraising approaches to Trusts and Foundations and corporates to meet an agreed annual target. This will include an overview of the Trusts and Foundations and corporate portfolios, managing a pool of Trusts and Foundations and corporates, scheduling approaches, liaising with colleagues on project information, meeting with administrators, trustees and corporate representatives, arranging visits to the University and writing effective proposals to secure gifts.
